Razer Huntsman Tournament Edition Review! The Customizable Razer Keyboard We Asked For..

The Razer Huntsman Tournament Edition uses a new iteration of the optomechanical switches present in the Razer Huntsman Elite, which should come as a surprise to approximately no one. It's been a tricky process, but the outcome is worth it. The actuation happens so fast, and the reset point is exactly at the same time, so you can be pressing it as fast as you can. Remember to keep your personal details safe, including case numbers. Razer Linear Optical Switch — Fast as lightning Regular mechanical switches are designed much like a classic typewriter, where actuation activates a physical response inside the switch. This is for serious gamers doing serious gaming. This is to prevent spam and emotional outlet searching. Fast forward to now and I am perfectly comfortable with the weight and the speed of the switches. I would say Razer gets major points here for actually listening and releasing a keyboard with all the features that people have been asking for. There's no garish font or thick lines; it's almost a bit boring. Luckily, Razer chose to keep the classic mechanical feel and sound that is a big part of why people love mechanical keyboards. The Razer Huntsman Tournament Edition looks good wherever it is Image credit: Future Final verdict The Razer Huntsman Tournament Edition might seem a bit expensive for what is essentially a barebones keyboard on face value. Razer rates it at 100 million keystrokes. Chest Width Measure the front of your tank top right under the sleeves from end to end. One of the coolest design elements here is the removable cable. It's on the left-hand side of the keyboard because a number of competitive gamers angle it during play for more comfortable use. The biggest difference between this and the regular Huntsman is that the purple switches still have a slight bump, despite having that optical tech inside. Image 7 of 7 Razer Huntsman Tournament Edition Image credit: Future Design One of the first things you'll notice about the Razer Huntsman Tournament Edition is that it's small. The actuation point is high and the switch is very light. Its tournament friendly designed combined with the cutting-edge optomechanical switches makes it one of the most finely tuned competitive keyboards on the market today. Chest Width Measure the front of your shirt right under the armpits from end to end. The purple switches are superb, with a similar feel to Razer's regular switches, just faster. We love this removable cable Image credit: Future Performance Of course, as a device aimed primarily at esports gamers, performance is all that matters. One of the other benefits that a switch like this offers is that there are less moving parts, which means it should last significantly longer. RΛZΞR is more than just the world's leading brand in gaming. When we reviewed the back in July 2018, we praised it for having the fastest key actuation of any we'd tested, and now the Razer Huntsman Tournament Edition looks to take that original keyboard's success and transfer it to a smaller, more esports-oriented format. Now each switch comes with its own stabilizer, and this means presses at off angles result in smooth motion. Esports gamers are typically extremely hard on their hardware, so it's good to know that this keyboard can stand up to even the most rigorous abuse. That starts with the placement of the cable. Grab a BlackWidow Lite or the regular Huntsman, if you need to type a lot. My gaming setup has changed quite a lot in the past few months. And coupled with the minimal chassis design of the Razer Huntsman Tournament Edition, it looks simply brilliant. Secondly, typing errors in the first two weeks were annoyingly common. If you do a lot of typing, it's almost too fast. Gaming keyboards aren't exactly uncommon. However, it is important to note that regular mechanical keys are already incredibly responsive, and the difference is a matter of milliseconds, which is hard for the human brain to notice. Razer has been using optical switches for a while now in the Huntsman and Huntsman Elite with the purple optical switch. If you're looking for essentially zero delay from press to action, you'll find it right here. The ultimate goal of the Razer Huntsman Tournament Edition is to pack the fastest and most reliable keyboard in a package small enough to easily carry around to, well, tournaments. You will be using that tank top as a reference point to the chart above on which of our apparel sizes will fit you best. Should you buy the Razer Huntsman Tournament Edition? It's also incredibly smooth for the key press, like alarmingly good, this keyboard feels amazing. I'm in my own office at the front of the house so it isn't a huge deal but man they are quite loud and I would like to dampen them a bit. They are incredibly light at 40 grams, actuating at 1. Check out my new Amazon store page for my favorite and most recommended products. Razer really came out swinging for the fences on this one. But the nature of the tech inside, and the fact these switches are linear, make it by no means Razer's best for typing. Just be mindful that this switch is very fast and requires a bit of readjustment in terms of finger memory, and realize that the weight of your hand will press on those keys. It's not that the keyboard is bad for typing. The keys on the Huntsman Tournament Edition are slightly rougher, which adds additional comfort and traction as well as giving it a very premium feel. By being on the left, it doesn't get in the way of anything else, most notably, your mouse. Instead I can deliver a longer-term piece that allows me to see if anything has gone wrong with this keyboard after extended use. It also causes less fatigue if you do a serious amount of gaming. At least, if you're willing to pay. But, the tech backs us up on paper. It has next to no additional features, and even the lighting is very subtle. The execution is perfect, but the sound characteristics are a bit more clunky, especially when you bottom out and that sound just kind of reverberates through the entire frame. If you're an esports player looking for a keyboard that's quick, reliable and portable, you really can't go wrong here. The switches are now red, and that's important. But, the fast keyswitches, removable cable and travel-friendly design could propel this keyboard to a must-have peripheral for aspiring pro gamers. Length This is a vertical measurement from the shoulder all the way to the bottom of the tee. If you're into games like Dota 2, in particular, you're going to enjoy it. That means stripping back any distracting extra features and doubling down where it counts: sheer performance. They are slightly more grainy and matte textured compared to what Ducky offers, but really solid keycaps overall. This means we have to just get one thing out of the way right off the bat: we're not professional gamers here at TechRadar. That said, it certainly does make the Huntsman Elite incredibly responsive and gives it a much smoother feel than the average keyboard. It looks basically the same as every other Razer keyboard. If you love speed switches, this thing is absolutely a no-brainer. The top plate is aluminum, however, so it's going to stand up to the test of time, especially if it goes in and out of a bag a lot. However, don't take the removable cable to mean that this is a wireless device: it isn't. It is incredibly responsive and swift and will undoubtedly give you an edge in competitive games compared to the average keyboard. Hood This is the measurement from the top most point of the hood to the bottom just beneath the drawstrings. There's maybe half an inch of chassis on each side of the keyboard after the keys end, which when combined with the unassuming black aluminum build means that it both blends in to its environment and looks extremely classy. It's truly difficult to put into words how fast this is. While the simplistic and compact design is great, the real star of the show is the Opto-mechanical switches. They have cut all of the usual flashy, unnecessary features, and we are left with a minimalistic keyboard that is finely tuned for conquering your enemies and take your performance to the next level. Over the years, Razer Chroma has been getting more customizable and visually appealing. See full rules in the wiki for exceptions. At the end of the day, a mechanical keyboard is only as good as its switches, so let us talk about those. You have all the features available, including Hypershift secondary key functions and Chroma customization, but you can just take it on the go and never have to worry about needing a companion app. You will be using that shirt as a reference point to the chart above on which of our apparel sizes will fit you best. After messing around with the Synapse software, which is how you'll customize all the lighting and macros, we left it on the default wheel effect just to stare at all the pretty colors. It does have a few features with mentioning, such as full Razer Chroma customization and onboard memory that lets you store separate configurations with Razer Synapse. Everything, from its specifications, to its design and layout, is finely tuned for maximum performance. However, take this with a grain of salt because we're generally terrible at Overwatch. It's a smaller version of the regular Huntsman, except, that's not the whole story. On that front, that does not appear to be a lie. My opinions expressed in the video are my own. They company is also quite proud of the fact that it managed to make such keys without a chunky font on them. If your body measurements for chest and waist width result in two different suggested sizes, order the size from your chest measurement. It's removable, which is crucial in a tournament-friendly keyboard that's going to be tossed in its fair share of bags. The Razer Huntsman Tournament Edition is a tenkeyless keyboard, which means that it doesn't have a numpad, which might put spreadsheet addicts into a frenzy, but really it's a design choice that makes sense for the target audience here. The speed of Razer's Huntsman Tournament Edition is unreal. So if you play competitive games and want to improve your gameplay, then this is a perfect fit for you. When gaming, it's hard to put into words. I was using a Ducky One 2 Mini with Silver switches so the 1mm actuation wasn't that big of an adjustment for me, took about an hour and I was good to go. More than any other subset, esports gamers care about accuracy and reliability, both of which come hand-in-hand with the freedom that wireless peripherals offer. Waist Width Measure your waist at the same point as shown in the diagram on the right. Lord knows Razer makes a whole bunch. Length This is a vertical measurement from the shoulder all the way to the bottom of the hoodie. I was not paid to make this video. Pardon the cliche, but it's so light your fingers really do just dance across the keys. After all, you cannot beat the speed of light. Length This is a vertical measurement from the collar all the way to the bottom of the tee. Rather than have a cable that can get jostled around in transit or during particularly erratic gaming sessions, the cable is simply removable. Arm Length This is a measurement from the tip of the shoulder where the stiches meet to the end of the sleeve. Hip Width Measure the narrowest part of your body as shown on in the diagram on the right. Show your support by liking this video Be sure to subscribe to the channel for more product reviews. Final Thoughts — The Best Competitive Razer Keyboard to Date The Razer Huntsman Tournament Edition nail all the most critical factors for a competitive keyboard. Waist Width Measure the narrowest part of your body as shown on in the diagram on the right. But this keyboard isn't really for that, anyway. The regular Huntsman is a better choice in that regard. Accounts created only for this purpose will be banned instantly. Our character is extremely responsive, and it didn't feel like there was any delay in our commands. They are light, super fast, and smooth. When you press down one of these keys, they interrupt a laser underneath the switch, triggering the keypress immediately, with pretty much no latency. Besides the ludicrously fast switches, you have a bunch of small design details that may not seem that important but are everything to the serious gamer. If you're a serious gamer, you're really going to dig this keyboard. For the discussion of RΛZΞR brand gaming products, by redditors, for redditors. You will be using that hoodie as a reference point to the chart above on which of our apparel sizes will fit you best. If you're going to spend the majority of your time using it in an office or anything that involves typing, no, you probably shouldn't. The red switch is linear, so there's no bump, and with instant actuation, the most delicate of touches is all that's needed to produce an action. Another great thing about the optomechanical switches is the fact that it completely eliminates debounce delay. The chassis is mostly plastic, but it feels durable. You can do so by simply clicking flair under your link! And, while we are definitely not pro gamers, we can't help but be in awe of the design of this thing. By signing up, you agree to receive emails from Razer about products, news, events and promotions including offers and discounts. I've lost count of the times I've made accidental keypresses because one of my fingers brushed the wrong key. And if you're a particularly heavy typist, as I am, you'll make a ton of mistakes. This is something Logitech refuse to do on their latest Logitech G Pro X keyboard. It's a pleasant keyboard to look at, and might be worth picking up even if you just want a simple keyboard for your desk at home. With help from some leading professional gamers, Razer took its optical switch technology and supercharged it for its fastest keyboard yet. If typing is secondary and what you want is a keyboard that will handle serious competitive play, look no further. It has a lot of new features and quality upgrades that shows Razer has been listening to community feedback. All the while keeping the satisfying, clicky feel of classical mechanical keyboards. On the bottom, the dual height adjustment is always a nice addition, but the keyboard is not as stable with these extensions, especially on a mousepad surface. But it's not every day that something truly innovative comes to the table, and that's where the latest and greatest comes in. The digital switches are not only fast, but also very satisfying to use. I had to develop new finger memory for more precise key strokes during text input. Chest Width Measure the front of your hoodie right under the armpits from end to end. We did it for the aesthetic, just like Razer. At the end of the day, though, the Razer Huntsman Tournament Edition is designed first and foremost with esports in mind. Razer also deserves two additional shoutouts on the cable. We obviously don't have the time to put that claim to the test, but if it's true, this keyboard should last years, even for the most avid gamers out there. While the secondary characters on the F keys are not illuminated, they pop just fine in white. The switches are rated at 100 million keystrokes, which is obviously excellent. Usually, Razer has an equal focus on esthetics and performance but this keyboard is all about competitive performance, and I love it. You might also need a secondary keyboard for typing with, but for serious, competitive gaming, this is one of the very best around. I for one cannot stand ridiculous fonts on keyboards. This means that no matter how pro you are, you should be able to notice some improvement in how fast this keyboard is. Still, playing Overwatch on the Razer Huntsman Tournament Edition feels pretty great. But coupled with the standard bottom row, you can now easily add your own custom keycaps using third-party solutions. The idea is simple: it feels like a traditional mechanical keyboard switch but instead of a metal contact, it uses a beam of light which when broken provides instant actuation. Which is what makes the Razer Opto-mechanical switches so exceptional for fast-paced competitive gaming. I've used some fast keyboards in the past, but this is unreal. These are now linear optical switches which Razer claims it offers the absolute fastest actuation to date. The keys use digital optical actuation via a beam of light inside the switch that signals your computer, which means that it responds to your keypresses at the speed of light.。 。 。 。 。 。
